Notes
The SS3 was initially a prototype bullpup conversion showcased in 2010, with the improved SS3-M1 entering production later. The SS3-M1 shifts from the FNC-derived lineage of the SS1/SS2 to a more AR-15-influenced design with gas piston operation. It accepts standard STANAG magazines and features Picatinny rail systems for accessories. The barrel length of 14.5 inches (368mm) in the SS3-M1 provides a good balance between compactness and ballistic performance in the bullpup layout.
Background
The Pindad SS3 represents Indonesia's ambition to develop a fully indigenous bullpup assault rifle, departing from the Belgian FN FNC lineage that defined its earlier SS1 and SS2 service rifles. The shift to a bullpup configuration reflects a broader global trend toward compact, maneuverable infantry weapons while maintaining full-length barrel ballistics.
