Overview
The PP-91 Kedr (Cedar) is a Russian compact submachine gun chambered in 9x18mm Makarov, designed by Yevgeny Dragunov, better known for the SVD sniper rifle. Originally conceived as the PP-71 in the early 1970s, the design was revived in the early 1990s when Russian law enforcement sought greater short-range firepower. It is a blowback-operated, selective-fire weapon firing from a closed bolt, with a stamped-steel receiver and a top-folding steel stock. It entered service in 1994 and is used by Russian police and security forces.

Notes
Fires from a closed bolt for improved accuracy. Features an L-shaped flip rear sight auto-adjusting for short and long range. The reinforced Klin variant handles the more powerful 9x18mm PMM cartridge; the Kedr-B is an integrally suppressed version.
Background
The Kedr's name is an acronym for Konstruktsiya Evgeniya Dragunova (the design of Yevgeny Dragunov) - the same engineer who created the legendary SVD Dragunov sniper rifle, here applying his talents to a pocket-sized submachine gun decades earlier.
