PSA JAKL

Palmetto State Armory · Rifle · In Production · 2022

Also known as: JAKL, Jackal

Overview

The PSA JAKL is a long-stroke gas-piston rifle from Palmetto State Armory that fuses AR-15 and AK design philosophies, debuting in 2022. Built around a 6105 monolithic upper receiver that mates to any mil-spec AR-15 lower, the JAKL replaces the AR's direct-impingement system and buffer tube with an AK-style over-barrel long-stroke piston and an AR/AK-hybrid bolt and carrier. Eliminating the buffer tube allows a true side-folding stock or brace, and the rifle can be fired with the stock folded. Chambered in 5.56 NATO, .300 Blackout, and .308 Winchester, it features an ambidextrous side charging handle, an adjustable gas block, and an M-LOK handguard. Barrel lengths span 10.5-inch pistols through 16-inch rifles, with the 14.5-inch pin-and-weld configuration being among the most popular. The JAKL is widely regarded as PSA's most original and innovative design rather than a clone of an existing platform.

Notes

Long-stroke piston AR/AK hybrid on a monolithic upper that accepts any mil-spec AR-15 lower. Offered in 5.56 NATO, .300 BLK, and .308 Win across pistol (10.5"/8.5" BLK) and rifle (13.7", 14.5", 16") configurations. The piston system removes the buffer tube, enabling side-folding stocks and brace adapters. MSRP roughly $1,000.

Background

The JAKL (often read as 'Jackal') marked Palmetto State Armory's pivot from cloning established designs to engineering its own, earning praise from skeptics as a genuinely innovative AR/AK hybrid and a leading contender for the modern 'truck gun.'
