Also known as: Type 05, QCW-05 Silenced SMG, Weisheng Chongfeng Qiang, CS/LS2

Overview

The QCW-05 (also known as the Type 05) is a suppressed bullpup submachine gun developed by the PLA's 208 Research Institute and produced by Jianshe Industries (China South Industries Group). Adopted in 2005 to replace the older Type 79 and Type 85 silenced SMGs, it fires the proprietary 5.8x21mm cartridge - using subsonic DCV-05 ammunition with the integral suppressor for very low signature, or the supersonic DAP-92 for general use. The aluminum-and-polymer construction keeps the weapon under 2.2 kg unloaded.

Notes

Externally resembles the QBZ-95 assault rifle to facilitate training commonality. The 50-round four-column box magazine is unusually high capacity for a service SMG.

Background

Despite externally mimicking the QBZ-95 assault rifle in silhouette, the QCW-05 is a simple open-bolt blowback design - it shares almost no internal parts with the rifle, and the resemblance is purely so that soldiers transitioning between the two weapons feel at home.
