Overview
The Remington 798 is a bolt-action hunting rifle built on a commercial Mauser 98 action with controlled-round feed, a claw extractor, and a hinged floorplate. Sold by Remington Arms from 2006 to 2008, it consisted of a Zastava Arms barreled action imported from Serbia and fitted with a brown laminated hardwood stock in the United States. It was offered in standard chamberings such as .30-06 Springfield with a 22-inch hammer-forged barrel, as well as magnum and safari calibers.

Notes
The 798 was effectively a rebranded Zastava M70 / Mark X-style Mauser sold under the Remington name. The receiver was drilled and tapped for scope mounts and shipped without iron sights.
Background
A budget-priced way for Remington to offer a genuine controlled-feed Mauser 98 sporter, the 798 paired Serbian Zastava metalwork with American-fitted laminated stocks. Its companion, the smaller 799, used a mini-Mauser action for short cartridges.
