Overview
The Remington Model 11-48 Riot is the short-barrelled law-enforcement variant of Remington's Model 11-48 long-recoil semi-automatic shotgun, catalogued as the Model 11-48R Riot Grade. Chambered in 12 gauge and fitted with a plain 20-inch (508 mm) cylinder-bore barrel and a bead front sight, it was intended for police, prison-guard and security use where close-quarters firepower mattered more than sporting reach. It shares the streamlined, in-house recoiling-barrel action of the standard 11-48, the first shotgun Remington designed entirely on its own after decades of building the Browning-derived Model 11. Shells feed from a tubular magazine beneath the barrel.

Notes
Riot Grade was one of several 11-48 configurations (Standard, Special, Tournament and Premier grades, plus the RSS Rifled Slug Special). Weight and overall length are estimated from the standard 12-gauge gun fitted with the shorter 20-inch riot barrel.
Background
The Model 11-48 was Remington's first fully in-house shotgun design, replacing the Browning Auto-5-derived Model 11; the riot-barrelled version carried the recoiling-barrel autoloader into police armouries alongside the pump-action guns that would eventually eclipse it.
