Overview
The Remington Model 58 Sportsman is a gas-operated semi-automatic shotgun and was Remington's first gas-operated shotgun design. Introduced in 1956 alongside the recoil-operated Model 11-48, it was chambered in 12, 16, and 20 gauge and fed from a two-round tubular magazine. Its gas system used an adjustable regulator cap that doubled as the magazine cap, allowing the shooter to tune the action between light and heavy loads. Produced until 1963, it was succeeded by the highly successful Model 1100.
