Specifications listed are for the 14.5-inch barrel variant with stock extended (864mm overall length). The 10.5-inch variant weighs 3.0 kg (6620g) with stock collapsed length of 688mm and extended length of 768mm. The 14.5-inch variant weighs 3.15 kg (6950g / reported as 3.2 kg by some sources) with collapsed length of 777mm. The R5 was developed as a response to the Individual Carbine competition to replace the M4 Carbine. Production status is uncertain following Remington's 2020 bankruptcy and asset sales.
Background
The R5 RGP was Remington Defense's entry into the U.S. Army's Individual Carbine competition to replace the M4 Carbine. The competition was ultimately cancelled in 2013 without selecting a winner, and the R5's fate was sealed when Remington filed for bankruptcy in 2020.
