Retay Masai Mara
Retay Arms · Shotgun · Discontinued · 2016
Overview
The Retay Masai Mara was the shotgun that introduced Retay Arms to the North American market and established the company's reputation for inertia-driven semi-automatics. Built around Retay's patented Inertia Plus system, its rotating bolt is held closed by a rollover torsion spring so a knock to the bolt cannot jar it out of battery - the failure mode that gives ordinary inertia guns their reputation for occasional click-no-bang. The Masai Mara featured a billet-aluminum receiver and trigger guard, a push-button detachable trigger group, a removable ejector, an 8mm vented sight rib with TruGlo front bead, and five MaraPro choke tubes, all shipped in a fitted hard case with shims, sling swivels and oil. Offered in 12-gauge with a 3.5-inch chamber and 20-gauge with a 3-inch chamber, in walnut and synthetic stocks plus numerous camo patterns, it spawned a Waterfowl version and the Warden tactical model. Retay discontinued the Masai Mara in the United States in 2024, replacing it with the ACE.

Background
Named after the Maasai Mara game reserve in Kenya, the Masai Mara was Retay Arms' breakthrough export model and earned strong reviews from American outdoor publications for bringing a refined, misfire-resistant inertia action to the mid price tier. It was retired in the US in 2024 in favor of the ACE.
