Overview
The Robinson Arms XCR (XCR-L) is a multi-caliber, gas-piston operated modular tactical rifle designed by Alex J. Robinson of Robinson Armament Co. Built around a gas-adjustable short-stroke piston driving a three-lug rotating bolt, the XCR-L is chambered for 5.56x45mm NATO and accepts standard AR-15/M16 magazines. Its defining feature is a quick-change barrel system that allows the same upper to be reconfigured between calibers such as 5.56, 6.8 SPC, and 7.62x39mm. The civilian model is semi-automatic only and was developed from a select-fire design entered into the U.S. SOF Combat Assault Rifle (SCAR) competition.

Notes
Civilian-market versions are semi-automatic only; the original development rifle was a select-fire design submitted to the SCAR program. Overall and folded lengths refer to the 16-inch barrel configuration with the side-folding stock extended (approx. 959 mm) and folded (approx. 696 mm). Barrel lengths range from 9.5 in to 18.6 in across configurations.
Background
The XCR was conceived as a multi-caliber, quick-change-barrel competitor to the FN SCAR, entered into the U.S. SOCOM SCAR (SOF Combat Assault Rifle) competition. It lost that contract to FN Herstal, but Robinson Armament continued producing the XCR-L (5.56-class) and later the XCR-M (7.62 NATO / .308) for the civilian and commercial market.
