Overview

The Ruger Super Blackhawk Bisley in .480 Ruger is a large-frame, single-action revolver built for handgun hunting and heavy-recoil big-bore shooting. It pairs Ruger's rugged transfer-bar New Model action and cold hammer-forged stainless barrel with the swept Bisley grip frame and wide, low-spur hammer, which help distribute the punishing recoil of the .480 Ruger cartridge. The five-shot unfluted cylinder, adjustable rear sight and ramp front sight make it well suited to hunting medium and large game at revolver ranges.

Model 0870 carries a 6.5-inch barrel; a 4.62-inch barrel version (Model 0872) is also offered. The .480 Ruger is a shortened, lower-pressure derivative of the .475 Linebaugh developed jointly by Ruger and Hornady.

Background

The Bisley grip frame traces its name to the Bisley shooting range in England; Ruger revived the Bisley style on its Blackhawk single-actions, and the big-bore .480 Ruger chambering gave hunters a heavy-recoiling five-shooter with a grip shape that tames muzzle flip better than the traditional plow-handle frame.
