Notes
The SR22 is known for exceptional reliability with a wide variety of .22 LR ammunition, including both high-velocity and standard-velocity loads. The aluminum slide rather than steel keeps the weight low, which is appropriate for the minimal recoil of the .22 LR cartridge. The double-action trigger pull is notably heavy at approximately 9 pounds, while the single-action pull is a crisp 3-4 pounds. A 4.5-inch barrel variant was later introduced for improved accuracy and velocity.
Background
The SR22 filled a gap in Ruger's lineup for a modern, reliable .22 LR semi-automatic pistol with contemporary features. While Ruger had long been known for their Mark series .22 pistols, the SR22 offered a more tactical, polymer-framed design with ambidextrous controls that appealed to a broader market including new shooters and those seeking an affordable training analog for their centerfire carry pistols.
