Sako 85 Grey Wolf

Sako Ltd. · Rifle · Discontinued · 2008

Also known as: Sako Model 85 Grey Wolf

Overview

The Sako 85 Grey Wolf is an all-weather configuration of the premium Finnish Sako 85 bolt-action hunting rifle, built around a stainless barreled action mated to a checkered grey laminated stock with a shadow-line cheekpiece. Like the rest of the Sako 85 family it uses caliber-specific action lengths, a controlled-round-feed claw extractor, a cold-hammer-forged free-floating barrel, a single-column Total Control detachable magazine, an integral 17mm dovetail scope rail and an adjustable single-stage trigger. The stainless metalwork and warp-resistant laminate make it suited to wet and cold hunting conditions, and Sako backs it with a 1 MOA five-shot accuracy guarantee.

Notes

Offered chiefly in the .30-06 Springfield with a 22-inch (roughly 559mm) barrel and a 5-round detachable magazine; magnum chamberings such as .300 Winchester Magnum use a longer barrel and reduced capacity. Weight varies by action length and chambering. Part of the Sako 85 line produced from 2006 to 2023, superseded by the Sako 90.

Background

The Grey Wolf pairs the Sako 85's caliber-specific action with a weatherproof stainless barreled action and a grey laminated stock, giving hunters the corrosion resistance of synthetic rifles while keeping the heft and warmth of a wood-based stock.
