Sako Ltd. · Rifle · Discontinued · 1992
Also known as: Sako TRG-S, M995
Overview
The Sako M995 TRG-S is a Finnish bolt-action hunting rifle, the sporting derivative of Sako's TRG precision-rifle system produced from 1992 to 2004. Built on a scaled-up magnum action with a three-lug bolt and an open-top receiver carrying an integral dovetail scope rail, it fed from detachable box magazines and was offered in a broad range of standard and magnum chamberings up to .338 Lapua Magnum. Fitted with a synthetic sporter stock and an adjustable single-stage trigger, the TRG-S earned a reputation as one of the earliest affordable factory rifles chambered for the long-range .338 Lapua Magnum cartridge.

Notes
The M995 designation covers the magnum-action TRG-S. All M995 rifles shared a receiver and stock designed for a maximum cartridge overall length of 95 mm, using four different magazine sizes and three bolt bodies to cover eight standard and fourteen magnum chamberings. A carbine version was offered with a 520 mm barrel (495 mm for U.S. imports).
Background
By chambering its budget-priced sporter in .338 Lapua Magnum, Sako put a genuine 1,000-metre cartridge into the hands of ordinary hunters years before purpose-built long-range rifles became common, making the TRG-S a cult favourite among extreme-range shooters.
