Sauer 404
J.P. Sauer & Sohn · Rifle · In Production · 2015
Also known as: S404, Sauer 404 Classic
Overview
The Sauer 404 is a premium modular bolt-action rifle featuring Sauer's manual cocking system and quick-change barrel capability. Like the Blaser R8 (a sister product within the Blaser Group), the 404 allows rapid barrel swaps between calibers, making it a versatile platform for hunters pursuing different game. The Ever Rest stock system provides consistent bedding through a unique stock-to-action interface. The manual cocking/de-cocking mechanism allows safe carry with a loaded chamber, with the action cocked silently before the shot. Interchangeable bolt heads accommodate different cartridge families, and the adjustable trigger provides a clean, crisp break.

Notes
The Sauer 404 succeeds the long-running Sauer 202. Weight: ~3200g. Barrel length: 560mm standard. The manual cocking system is similar in concept to the Blaser R8's but uses Sauer's own mechanical implementation. The Ever Rest stock interface is a key differentiator from competing modular rifles. Available in Classic (walnut) and Synchro (synthetic) stock configurations. The XTC variant features a thumbhole stock.
Background
The Sauer 404 carries forward the tradition established by the legendary Sauer 202, which was one of the first production rifles to offer a tool-free barrel change system. The 404's Ever Rest stock system represents Sauer's answer to the age-old challenge of consistent bedding - ensuring the action sits identically in the stock every time it's assembled.
