Overview

The Sauer Royal is a break-action, side-by-side double-barrel shotgun produced by the German firearms maker J.P. Sauer & Sohn. Introduced in the late 1960s as part of Sauer's premium smoothbore line, it is a boxlock break-open shotgun chambered most commonly in 12 gauge (also 16 and 20 gauge), with twin triggers, fixed chokes, a case-hardened receiver and an oil-finished walnut stock in English or Prince of Wales grip styles. It was aimed at hunters and field sport shooters seeking a traditional German double gun.

Notes

Offered with 26, 28 or 30 inch barrels and 70mm (2 3/4 inch) or 76mm (3 inch) chambers depending on variant; some examples were fitted with a single selective trigger and ejectors. Now out of production and increasingly collectible.

Background

J.P. Sauer & Sohn, founded in Suhl in 1751, is one of Germany's oldest firearms manufacturers, and the Royal continued the company's long tradition of building fine break-action double guns for the hunting market.
