FN SCAR-SC
FN Herstal · Carbine · In Production · 2017
Also known as: SCAR Subcompact Carbine, SCAR-SC
Overview
The FN SCAR-SC is a select-fire subcompact carbine chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO, derived from FN Herstal's combat-proven SCAR rifle family and unveiled in 2017. Built around a 190mm (7.5-inch) cold-hammer-forged, chrome-lined barrel and a short-stroke gas piston action, it compresses the full SCAR platform into a package measuring 653mm with the telescopic stock extended and just 536mm retracted, weighing roughly 3.15kg empty. Designed for confined spaces, vehicle crews, close protection and special operations, it retains high parts commonality with other SCAR variants, ambidextrous controls, a reversible non-reciprocating charging handle, and Picatinny rails at the 3, 6, 9 and 12 o'clock positions. The barrel is suppressor-ready and the carbine feeds from standard 30-round STANAG magazines. It is also offered in 7.62x35mm (.300 BLK).

Background
Unveiled in 2017, the SCAR-SC represents FN Herstal's push to make the SCAR platform 'smaller and smaller' for close-quarters and concealed-carry roles, shedding around 150g and 135mm of length versus the SCAR-L while keeping the family's modularity and full-power 5.56mm chambering.
