Overview
The SIG P232 is a compact, blowback-operated semi-automatic pistol chambered primarily in .380 ACP. Introduced in 1996 as the successor to the SIG P230, it retains an all-metal construction with a fixed barrel, a coaxial recoil spring surrounding the barrel, and a traditional double-action/single-action trigger with a decocking lever. Favored as a concealed-carry and plainclothes police sidearm, it was offered with an aluminum-alloy frame or, in the P232 SL variant, full stainless steel.

Background
The P232 evolved directly from the SIG P230 of the 1970s, a pistol widely carried by European police as a plainclothes and backup weapon. Its slim, all-metal profile and DA/SA action made it a favored concealed-carry pistol in the United States until it was discontinued in favor of smaller striker-fired designs.
