SIG Sauer P938 Legion

SIG Sauer · Pistol · In Production · 2018

Also known as: P938 Legion, P938-9-LEGION

Overview

The SIG Sauer P938 Legion is the premium-tier variant of the P938 micro-compact pistol, part of SIG Sauer's exclusive Legion series. Introduced in 2018, the P938 Legion takes the already popular P938 platform and elevates it with Legion-exclusive enhancements. The pistol retains the P938's 1911-inspired single-action-only (SAO) operating system with a locked-breech, short-recoil action in a micro-compact package measuring just 150mm in overall length, 109mm in height, and 28mm in width. Weighing approximately 482 grams (17 oz) unloaded, the P938 Legion features a hard-coat anodized aluminum alloy frame and stainless steel slide finished in SIG's proprietary Elite Cerakote Legion Gray coating. Key Legion upgrades include X-RAY3 tritium day/night sights for enhanced visibility in all lighting conditions, a precision-machined flat trigger for improved leverage and a cleaner break, an extended magwell for faster reloads, front cocking serrations, and custom black G-10 grips with an embedded Legion medallion. The P938 Legion ships with three 7-round steel magazines, providing a 7+1 capacity. The ambidextrous thumb safety and 1911-style manual of arms make it a natural choice for shooters who prefer traditional single-action carry pistols.

Notes

The P938 Legion is manufactured at SIG Sauer's Exeter, New Hampshire facility. It weighs slightly more than the standard P938 (17 oz vs 16 oz) due to the extended magwell and G-10 grips replacing the standard polymer or rubber grips. The flat trigger is a notable upgrade from the standard P938's curved trigger, providing improved finger placement and a perceived lighter pull of approximately 33 newtons (7.5 lbs) compared to the standard model's 36 newtons (8 lbs). The Legion Gray Cerakote Elite finish provides enhanced corrosion resistance and a distinctive matte gray appearance that is the hallmark of the Legion series. Like all P938 variants, the Legion features an unusual left-hand barrel twist with six grooves at a 1:10 twist rate. Purchasing a P938 Legion grants membership in SIG's exclusive Legion community with access to Legion-only products and events. MSRP is approximately $820, representing a premium of roughly $150 over the standard P938 models.

Background

The P938 Legion represents the pinnacle of SIG's micro-compact 1911-style pistol line. While many P938 variants have been discontinued as SIG consolidated their catalog around the higher-capacity P365 family, the Legion endures as a premium option for shooters who prefer the single-action trigger, all-metal construction, and slim single-stack profile that the P365 cannot replicate. The Legion series treatment - gray Cerakote, G-10 grips, X-RAY3 sights, and flat trigger - transforms the already capable P938 into a refined pocket pistol that commands a loyal following among concealed carry enthusiasts.
