SIG SG 552 Commando
SIG Sauer AG · Carbine · Discontinued · 1998
Also known as: SG 552, SG552 Commando
Overview
The SIG SG 552 Commando is a compact gas-operated, selective-fire carbine, the shortest member of the Swiss SG 550 rifle family. Introduced in 1998, it pairs a 226 mm barrel and side-folding stock with the same rotating-bolt, long-stroke gas-piston action as the full-size SG 550, chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO. Built for special operations, vehicle crews and close-quarters work, it retains the family's translucent polymer magazines with coupling studs and a flash suppressor, while being far more maneuverable than the parent rifle.

Manufactured in Switzerland from 1998 to 2008, after which the improved SG 553 superseded it. The SG 552-2 variant added a STANAG magazine well in place of the proprietary SG 550 magazine.
Background
The SG 552 Commando became widely recognized through video games such as Counter-Strike, where it featured as a compact assault carbine, well before many players encountered it in real-world service with Swiss forces and police units.
