Overview
The Smith & Wesson M&P22 Compact is a compact, .22 LR semi-automatic pistol introduced in 2014 as a scaled-down rimfire trainer and recreational handgun. Chambered in .22 Long Rifle with a 10+1 round capacity, the M&P22 Compact features a 3.56-inch barrel with a 1:15-inch twist rate and 6 grooves, an overall length of 6.65 inches, height of 5.03 inches, width of 1.48 inches, and an unloaded weight of approximately 15.3 ounces (434g). The pistol operates on a simple blowback action with an internal hammer-fired mechanism and a DA/SA trigger with an approximate 7-pound trigger pull. The polymer frame is paired with an aluminum alloy slide and carbon steel barrel. Standard sights include a white dot front sight and adjustable white dot rear sight. Safety features include an ambidextrous manual thumb safety, magazine disconnect, and internal lock. A threaded barrel adapter (3/8x24 to 1/2x28) is included with most models, making the M&P22 Compact suppressor-ready out of the box. The pistol features a Picatinny accessory rail and reversible magazine release. Available variants include a factory-threaded barrel model and a Cerakote Flat Dark Earth finish.

Notes
The M&P22 Compact was developed as an affordable, compact rimfire pistol that provides M&P-style ergonomics in a .22 LR package. While it shares the M&P branding and general styling, the M&P22 Compact was actually manufactured by Walther Arms (a subsidiary of Umarex) in Germany under license from Smith & Wesson, similar to the full-size M&P22. The pistol is based on the Walther P22 platform with M&P-specific styling and ergonomic modifications. The included threaded barrel adapter and compact size have made it popular with suppressor enthusiasts who want an affordable, reliable host for rimfire silencers. The M&P22 Compact has been a strong seller in the recreational and training segments, offering new shooters a low-recoil, easy-to-handle introduction to semi-automatic pistols.
Background
The M&P22 Compact occupies a unique niche in the Smith & Wesson lineup as a compact rimfire that bridges recreational plinking and serious training. Its suppressor-ready design and compact dimensions have made it a favorite among rimfire enthusiasts and new shooters alike, while the M&P branding provides familiarity for those already invested in the platform.
