Overview
The Smith & Wesson M&P10 is an AR-10-pattern semi-automatic rifle chambered in .308 Winchester/7.62x51mm NATO, introduced in 2013 as the large-frame counterpart to the popular 5.56mm M&P15. It uses a direct gas impingement system, a 7075-T6 aluminum upper and lower receiver, an 18-inch 4140 steel barrel and a six-position collapsible stock, feeding from SR-25/DPMS-pattern detachable box magazines. Marketed for hunting, sport shooting and home defense, it brought Smith & Wesson's modern sporting rifle line into the full-power .308 segment.

Notes
Early M&P10 rifles used a redesigned firing-pin spring intended to eliminate the potential for an unintentional discharge. Later Sport and Performance Center variants added optics-ready configurations and a 6.5mm Creedmoor chambering on the longer-barreled PC model.
Background
Smith & Wesson scaled its best-selling M&P15 up to the full-power .308 cartridge, giving the M&P series a deer-and-hog-capable big brother that still ran on familiar AR controls.
