Overview

The Smith & Wesson Performance Center M&P Shield X Carry Comp is a compact, striker-fired semi-automatic pistol chambered in 9mm, introduced in late 2025 as the compensated variant of the Shield X platform. Built by Smith & Wesson's Performance Center custom shop, the Shield X Carry Comp integrates the proven PowerPort compensator technology into its 3.6-inch (91mm) fluted and ported stainless steel barrel, with a matched port in the slide at the 12 o'clock position that diverts propellant gases upward to reduce felt recoil and muzzle rise. The ClearSight slide cut channels gases away from the optic mounting area, keeping a mounted red dot sight free of fouling. The pistol weighs 20.6 ounces (584g) empty and measures 6.87 inches (175mm) in overall length, 4.9 inches (124mm) in height, and just 0.9 inches (23mm) at the slide. The flat-face trigger breaks cleanly at approximately 3.5 pounds (16 N), matching the standard Shield X's excellent trigger. The optics-ready slide features an RMSc/K cut for direct mounting of micro red dot sights, paired with an Ameriglo Trooper LumiGreen front night sight and blacked-out serrated rear sight for co-witness capability. A Picatinny accessory rail accommodates weapon lights and lasers. The Shield X Carry Comp ships with one 13-round flush-fit magazine and one 15-round extended magazine. Available in thumb safety, no thumb safety, and 10-round compliant configurations at an MSRP of $699.

The Shield X Carry Comp was announced in November 2025, expanding the Shield X lineup introduced in mid-2025. It uses the same PowerPort and ClearSight technology found in the earlier Shield Plus Carry Comp but applied to the larger, more shootable Shield X platform. The 3.6-inch barrel with integral porting maintains the same overall length as the standard Shield X since the compensation is built into the existing barrel length rather than added externally. The fluted barrel reduces weight while the porting diverts gases upward through a single port. The trigger pull of approximately 3.5 pounds is identical to the standard Shield X, making it one of the lightest factory triggers in the compact carry class. The Shield X Carry Comp uses the same Shield RMSc/K optic footprint for mounting compatibility with popular micro red dots like the Holosun 507K, Shield RMSc, and Trijicon RMSc. Weight is 20.6 oz per S&W specs, slightly lighter than the standard Shield X's 20.8 oz due to the barrel fluting and porting removing material. The 13-round and 15-round magazines use the same thin-wall double-column technology as the standard Shield X.
