Also known as: Echelon 4.0C Comp, EC9409B-U-COMP

Overview

The Springfield Echelon 4.0C Comp is a compact striker-fired semi-automatic pistol introduced in 2025 as part of Springfield Armory's Echelon series. Chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum, it features an integral single-port compensator that redirects propellant gases upward through a port in the top of the slide and barrel to reduce muzzle rise and improve follow-up shot control. The pistol is built around Springfield's modular Central Operating Group, a self-contained serialized fire control unit that allows the same operating group to be transferred between different Echelon frame sizes. The 4.0C Comp features a 4-inch hammer-forged barrel with Melonite finish, a billet-machined optics-ready slide utilizing the Variable Interface System for direct-mount compatibility with leading red dot optics, and tritium/luminescent U-Dot sights. It ships with both a 15-round flush-fit magazine and an 18-round extended magazine, offering versatility for concealed carry and home defense. At 24 ounces with the flush magazine, the Echelon 4.0C Comp balances shootability with portability in a compact package with bilateral controls for ambidextrous operation.

Notes

The Echelon 4.0C Comp builds on the full-size Echelon platform launched in 2023 by adding a compact frame with integral compensator. The Variable Interface System (VIS) eliminates the need for adapter plates when mounting optics, offering direct compatibility with footprints from Trijicon, Leupold, Holosun, and others. The compensator design is integral rather than threaded, maintaining a clean slide profile while effectively reducing felt recoil. MSRP at launch was $749-$784 depending on configuration. Available magazine configurations include two 15-round, one 15-round and one 18-round, or two 10-round magazines depending on SKU.

Background

The Echelon series represents Springfield Armory's answer to the modular pistol trend, featuring a serialized Central Operating Group that can move between frame sizes much like SIG Sauer's P320 fire control unit. The 4.0C Comp variant was introduced to compete in the rapidly growing compensated compact carry pistol segment, offering factory-integrated compensation without the added length of a threaded barrel and aftermarket comp.
