Also known as: Echelon 4.0FC, EC9409BFC-U

Overview

The Springfield Echelon 4.0FC is a striker-fired semi-automatic pistol introduced at SHOT Show 2026, combining a full-size grip frame with a compact 4-inch slide. Chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum, the 4.0FC pairs the handling and 17+1 flush-fit magazine capacity of the full-size Echelon 4.5F with the shorter, lighter slide of the compact 4.0C, creating a duty/carry hybrid in the style of long-grip/short-slide designs. The pistol is built around Springfield's modular Central Operating Group, a serialized fire control unit that can be transferred between Echelon grip modules in seconds. The billet-machined slide features the Variable Interface System for direct-mount compatibility with over 30 leading optics without adapter plates, and ships with tritium/luminescent U-Dot sights for rapid acquisition in all lighting. At 680g (24 oz) empty with the flush magazine, it weighs less than the full-size Echelon while providing the same full-length grip for enhanced control. The 4.0FC ships with one 17-round flush-fit magazine and one 20-round extended magazine, bilateral slide stop and magazine release, and a compact-length dust cover with accessory rail. The shorter, lighter slide contributes to faster cycling and quicker sight return between shots.

Notes

The Echelon 4.0FC was announced at SHOT Show 2026 in Las Vegas. It fills the gap between the compact 4.0C (compact grip and slide) and the full-size 4.5F (full-size grip and slide), adopting the full-size grip module with the compact slide assembly. MSRP is $710. The 'FC' designation stands for Full-size grip/Compact slide. Compatible with all Echelon-series magazines. The Central Operating Group and Variable Interface System are shared across all Echelon variants. Available in multiple configurations with factory tritium sights standard.

Background

The Echelon 4.0FC follows the industry trend of long-grip/short-slide hybrid pistols popularized by the Glock 19X and SIG P320 X-Carry. Springfield's implementation builds on the Echelon platform's modular Central Operating Group, allowing users to create the same configuration by swapping components, though the 4.0FC offers it as a factory-optimized package. The design philosophy prioritizes concealment of the slide and barrel while retaining the full-size grip for maximum capacity and shootability.
