Notes
The XD-M introduced several innovations to the XD platform: interchangeable backstraps (three sizes), match-grade Melonite-finished barrel, enhanced slide serrations ("Mega Lock" texture), and increased magazine capacity. The Elite OSP (Optical Sight Pistol) variants feature factory-milled slides for red dot optics. Available in 9mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP, and 10mm Auto. The design originated from Croatian manufacturer HS Produkt.
Background
The XD-M traces its lineage to the Croatian HS2000, designed during the Croatian War of Independence when the newly independent nation needed a domestic sidearm. Springfield Armory licensed the design for the American market, where it became one of the first serious polymer pistol competitors to Glock's dominance.
