Star Model MMS

Star Bonifacio Echeverria, S.A. · Pistol · Discontinued · 1971

Also known as: Star MMS, Modelo MMS

Overview

The Star Model MMS is a Spanish semi-automatic pistol-carbine built on the classic 1911-pattern Star Model M frame and chambered in 7.63x25mm Mauser. Produced by Star Bonifacio Echeverria of Eibar, it features a 5-inch barrel and was shipped with a wooden combination holster/shoulder stock and a set of magazines (8-, 16-, and 32-round), allowing it to be shouldered like a carbine for improved accuracy at range. Unlike the select-fire Model MD machine pistol, the MMS is semi-automatic only.

Notes

Roughly 1,174 examples were built between 1971 and 1985, making the MMS one of the rarest of Star's stocked pistol-carbines. Its 9x19mm Parabellum counterpart was the Model MB. Because the wooden shoulder stock doubles as a holster and the pistol is over a certain vintage, U.S. examples are widely regarded as C&R collectible and have been treated as NFA-exempt.

Background

Star's stocked pistol-carbines let a shooter clip a wooden holster onto the grip and turn a 1911-style handgun into a shoulder-fired carbine — a throwback to Mauser C96 'Broomhandle' days that Star kept alive into the 1980s in the antique 7.63mm Mauser chambering.
