Star Modelo P
Star Bonifacio Echeverria, S.A. · Pistol · Discontinued · 1934
Also known as: Star Model P, Star P
Overview
The Star Modelo P is a Spanish single-action, recoil-operated semi-automatic pistol chambered in .45 ACP. Manufactured by Star Bonifacio Echeverria, it is one of the larger members of the company's Browning-inspired A/B/P family of pistols based on the Colt M1911 design. Unlike the M1911, the Modelo P dispenses with the grip safety and uses an external extractor and a simplified lockwork. It was produced largely for the American commercial market.

Background
Star Bonifacio Echeverria of Eibar, Spain built its reputation on 1911-pattern pistols that were mechanically similar to Colt's design but distinguished by the absence of a grip safety. The .45 ACP Model P and its compact descendant, the Star PD, became popular affordable alternatives to the American 1911 before the company closed in 1997.
