Overview
The Steyr AUG Para 9mm is a submachine gun variant of the Steyr AUG bullpup rifle, chambered for the 9x19mm Parabellum cartridge. Introduced in 1988, it replaces the rifle's gas-operated system with a simple blowback action firing from a closed bolt, and adds a magazine-well adapter that feeds from Steyr MPi 69 box magazines. Retaining the AUG's polymer bullpup chassis and integrated optical sight, it was intended for police, special operations, and close-quarters work where a compact 9mm carbine is preferable to a rifle-caliber weapon.

Notes
The conversion is reversible: a standard AUG rifle can be converted to the 9mm Para configuration by swapping the barrel, bolt group, and magazine adapter. Adopted by the Austrian police as the MP 88, replacing the Uzi. Superseded in production by the AUG A3 platform in the late 2000s.
