Overview

The Steyr Classic Mannlicher is a bolt-action hunting rifle built on Steyr's Safe Bolt System (SBS) action and finished in the traditional European sporting style with an oil-finished walnut stock and Bavarian cheekpiece. Offered with half-stock and full-length (Mannlicher) stock options and a cold-hammer-forged carbon-steel barrel, it feeds from a detachable box magazine and pairs a single-set trigger with Steyr's three-position roller safety. Chambered for a wide range of cartridges from .222 Remington up to magnums, the .30-06 Springfield version is among the most popular for big-game hunting.

Notes

The Classic forms part of Steyr's SBS (Safe Bolt System) Mannlicher line introduced in the mid-1990s. The three-position safety locks the bolt, secures the firing pin and provides a 'safe bolt' loading position. Standard calibers feed a 4-round magazine; magnums hold 3.

Background

The Mannlicher full-length 'stutzen' stock that wraps the barrel to the muzzle is a hallmark of Austrian sporting rifles, a styling tradition tracing back to Ferdinand Ritter von Mannlicher's late-19th-century designs and carried forward into Steyr's modern SBS Classic line.
