Also known as: Taurus Tracker 692, Model 692
Overview
The Taurus 692 is a seven-shot, double-action/single-action multi-caliber revolver built on Taurus's medium Tracker frame. Introduced at SHOT Show 2018, its defining feature is a quick-swap dual-cylinder system that allows the shooter to switch between a .357 Magnum/.38 Special cylinder and a 9mm Luger cylinder by pressing a button-release on the right side of the frame at the front of the trigger guard. Both unfluted cylinders hold seven rounds. The 3-inch barrel model weighs 35 ounces (992g) with an overall length of 8.14 inches (207mm) and a height of 5.66 inches (144mm). The ported barrel directs propellant gas upward to reduce muzzle flip, which is particularly beneficial with full-power .357 Magnum loads. The barrel features a full underlug that shrouds and protects the ejector rod. Sights consist of a ramped front sight with a red insert and a fully adjustable rear sight for windage and elevation. The Ribber rubber grip provides cushioning against recoil. Standard safety features include a transfer bar mechanism and the Taurus Security System (TSS) integral key-lock. The 9mm cylinder requires moon clips (three are included) for headspacing and reliable extraction of the rimless cartridges. The double-action trigger pull measures approximately 16 pounds (71 N), while the single-action pull is approximately 4.5 pounds (20 N). With 125-grain .357 Magnum loads from the 3-inch ported barrel, muzzle velocity is approximately 1,345 fps (410 m/s), producing around 681 joules of muzzle energy.

Notes
The Taurus 692 is part of the Tracker family of medium-frame revolvers and is the successor to the earlier Taurus 692 prototype concepts. It competes with the Charter Arms Pathfinder and Ruger Blackhawk Convertible in the multi-caliber revolver segment, though the 692's tool-free cylinder swap and double-action capability distinguish it. The 3-inch barrel model specifications are listed as the base configuration. The 6.5-inch barrel variant is heavier at approximately 44 ounces (1247g) with an overall length of approximately 12 inches (305mm) and is aimed at range shooting and trail carry. Loaded weight estimate for the 3-inch model includes seven .357 Magnum cartridges at approximately 13g each. The ported barrel reduces muzzle flip by approximately one-third with full-power .357 Magnum loads, according to Taurus. The 9mm capability makes the 692 particularly versatile for shooters who want to train with affordable 9mm ammunition and carry with .357 Magnum for defense. MSRP at introduction was approximately $639, with street prices around $485. The Executive Grade variant, introduced in 2024, features upgraded VZ grips, polished internals, and enhanced trigger work at a premium price point.
Background
The Model 692 is unique among revolvers for its ability to swap between .357 Magnum/.38 Special and 9mm Luger cylinders, offering unprecedented versatility in a single platform.
