The Tavor 7 was developed in close collaboration with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to provide a compact, powerful rifle for urban warfare and vehicle operations where a full-power 7.62mm cartridge is desired but space is limited. The rifle is fully ambidextrous with an M4-style magazine release, 45-degree safety selector, and accepts standard SR-25/LR-25 pattern magazines. The four-position gas regulator allows the rifle to be optimized for standard fire, adverse conditions, suppressor use, or manual cycling. Available in both 16.5-inch and 20-inch barrel configurations, the Tavor 7 addresses the perennial challenge of fielding a 7.62mm NATO weapon in a package small enough for close-quarters operations.
Background
The Tavor 7 represents IWI's answer to a question militaries have struggled with for decades: how to field a full-power 7.62mm NATO rifle that is short enough for vehicle crews and urban combat. While most armies solved this by simply accepting 5.56mm, IWI compressed a 16.5-inch barreled battle rifle into a package shorter than a folded-stock MP5 submachine gun.
