Overview

The Trejo Modelo 1 GT is a Mexican select-fire machine pistol chambered in .22 Long Rifle, produced by Armas Trejo of Zacatlan, Puebla. Styled after the Colt 1911 but with a more aggressive grip angle, it fires from a blowback action and offers both semi-automatic and full-automatic fire at a cyclic rate of roughly 1200 rounds per minute from an 8-round detachable box magazine. Mexican law of the era permitted civilian ownership of fully automatic rimfire firearms, making the compact Modelo 1 a legally available machine pistol.

Notes

The Trejo pistols were made by a small family company in Puebla, Mexico from the late 1940s until the early 1970s. The larger Modelo 2 used an 11-round magazine. Production ended abruptly following changes to Mexican firearms regulations.

Background

Because Mexican law at the time allowed civilians to own fully automatic rimfire firearms, Armas Trejo could legally sell 1911-styled machine pistols that emptied their magazines in under half a second; a regulatory change in the early 1970s put the family company out of business almost overnight.
