Overview
The Type 67 is a Chinese 7.62x54mmR general-purpose machine gun designed by Dr. Duo Ying Jian and adopted by the PLA in 1967. It is a hybrid design that borrows the gas piston and rotating tilting-breechblock action from the Soviet SG-43 Goryunov, the bipod and basic layout from the Soviet RP-46, and the firing pin assembly from the Russian PK family. Belt-fed from 100- or 250-round non-disintegrating links, it served as the PLA's standard squad/company machine gun for decades and remains in second-line and reserve service.

Notes
Has seen extensive third-world export and combat use, from the Vietnam War through the Soviet-Afghan War, Yemeni Civil War, and Syrian Civil War. The Type 67-2 (1982) is the most widely encountered modern variant.
Background
The Type 67 is a Frankenstein design that blended pieces from at least four different Soviet machine guns - the SG-43, RP-46, RPD, and PK - combining what Chinese engineers considered the best parts of each into a uniquely Chinese GPMG that ended up serving for over 50 years.
