Overview
The Uberti 1848 Whitneyville Dragoon is a reproduction of the transitional Whitneyville-Hartford Dragoon, a large-frame .44 caliber single-action percussion revolver that bridged Samuel Colt's massive Walker and the later production Dragoon models. It is a cap-and-ball revolver with a six-shot cylinder, a 7.5-inch round barrel, and a case-hardened steel frame with brass grip furniture.

Background
The original Whitneyville-Hartford Dragoon was the first of Colt's Dragoon revolvers, assembled at Eli Whitney's Whitneyville Armory using leftover parts and tooling from the Walker contract before Colt opened his own Hartford works. It refined the enormous Walker into a more practical cavalry sidearm.
