Overview
The Ugartechea Model 1042 is a Spanish best-quality side-by-side break-action shotgun and the flagship of the Armas Ugartechea range. Built around a hand-detachable rounded sidelock action in the Eibar tradition, it is chambered for 12 gauge (with 16, 20, 28 gauge and .410 bore also offered), fitted with chopper-lump (demi-bloc) barrels, double triggers, selective automatic ejectors, a hand-fitted walnut stock and full hand engraving. It is a hand-built sporting and game gun aimed at the high end of the bespoke shotgun market.

The 1042 is Ugartechea's top-tier rounded-action model, comparable to the maker's earlier best-quality sidelocks. Offered with 26, 27 or 28 inch barrels, 2 3/4 inch chambers and a choice of choke configurations; nearly every dimension and feature is made to customer order.
Background
Armas Ugartechea was founded by Ignacio Ugartechea in 1922 in the Basque gunmaking town of Eibar and built its reputation supplying matched pairs of best-quality sidelock shotguns for the English market. The firm was among the first Spanish makers to produce over-and-under guns and remains one of the few that forges its own barrels.
