Overview

The Ugartechea Model 30 is a Spanish boxlock break-action side-by-side shotgun built by Armas Ugartechea in Eibar, in the Basque gunmaking region. A hammerless double most commonly chambered in 12 gauge with 2 3/4-inch or 3-inch magnum chambers (also offered in 20 gauge), it uses a scroll-engraved boxlock action with double triggers, extractors, and 26- to 28-inch barrels with a straight-grip English-style checkered walnut stock. Imported into the United States in the mid-1980s through Precision Sports, it was marketed as an affordable, well-made game and field gun.

Notes

A budget/mid-tier boxlock in the Ugartechea range, distinct from the firm's best-quality sidelock models such as the Model 1030. Late examples carry 3-inch magnum chambers and modified/full choke barrels; U.S.-market guns were often marked 'Precision Sports Model 30'.

Background

Armas Ugartechea was founded by Ignacio Ugartechea in 1922 in Eibar, the heart of the Basque gunmaking region, and the Model 30 typified the affordable Spanish game guns that let American hunters own a hand-built side-by-side at a fraction of the cost of the great English houses.
