Overview
The Valmet 412 is a Finnish modular break-action over/under built around a single robust monobloc receiver accepting interchangeable barrel sets. It serves equally as a 12-gauge over/under sporting shotgun (412 S/ST) and as a big-game combination gun with a rifle barrel over a shotgun barrel (412 K), or as a double rifle, all sharing one frame, single selective trigger and automatic safety.

Notes
Marketed as the '412 Shooting System' - one receiver, swappable barrel sets. Shotgun barrels offered in 26/28/30 inch lengths; rifle/combination barrel sets in .222 Rem, .308 Win, .30-06, 7.62x54R and 9.3x74R among others. Weight figure is for the 12-gauge over/under configuration; double-rifle barrel sets are heavier. Valmet's firearms branch was sold to Sako in 1986 and the design continued as the Tikka 512.
Background
Marketed as a complete Finnish 'shooting system' - buy one rugged over/under receiver and swap between a 12-gauge shotgun, a rifle/shotgun combination gun, or a full double rifle by changing barrel sets. When Valmet's parent pivoted to tractors and industrial machinery, the firearms line was sold to Sako in 1986.
