Overview
The Vostok MU-1 is a Soviet .22 Short self-loading target pistol built for Olympic-style 25 metre rapid-fire competition. It is a blowback, hammer-fired semi-automatic feeding from a six-round detachable box magazine, with a light adjustable trigger, adjustable target sights on a short sight radius, a muzzle brake to suppress the already mild recoil of the .22 Short cartridge, and an anatomical wooden target grip. Produced by the Tula sporting-arms bureau TsKIB SOO, it was exported to the West under the 'Vostok' trademark during the Cold War.

Specifications drawn from the factory 'Vostok MU/MU-Y' manual: barrel 160 mm (186 mm with muzzle brake), overall length 300 mm with brake, sight radius 190 mm, total weight not over 1.2 kg with full magazine and brake, trigger pull 0.5-1.0 kg, six-groove right-hand rifling at one turn in 400 mm. Chambered in .22 Short for the rapid-fire pistol discipline.
Background
Marketed abroad under the Cold War 'Vostok' export brand, MU-series rapid-fire pistols were the tools of Soviet Olympic pistol shooters such as Makhmud Umarov, who took rapid-fire silver in the 1950s using a trigger-guard-cocked variant of the design.
