Overview
The Carl Walther GmbH WMP (Walther Magnum Pistol) is a full-size, optics-ready semi-automatic pistol chambered in .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire, introduced by Walther Arms in May 2022. Reliably cycling the high-pressure, rimmed .22 WMR cartridge in a semi-automatic handgun has long challenged designers, and the WMP addresses it with a straight-blowback action built around a fixed bull barrel: an external hammer adds resistance that keeps the action closed during the initial pressure spike, allowing chamber pressures to drop to safe levels before the aluminum slide cycles. The result is a duty-sized 'kit gun' for the 21st century, offering a 15-round magazine, ambidextrous controls, an accessory rail, interchangeable backstraps, and a slide cut for popular micro red-dot optics. Lightweight recoil and high capacity make it well suited to small-game hunting, plinking, trail carry, and recreational shooting.
