WBP Jack

Also known as: WBP Jack 762SC, Jack Classic

Overview

The WBP Jack is a semi-automatic, AKM-pattern rifle chambered in 7.62x39mm, built by the Polish manufacturer WBP Rogów (Wytwórnia Broni Jacek Popiński) in Rogów, Poland. It pairs a stamped AKM receiver with an FB Radom hammer-forged, chrome-lined barrel and Polish laminated furniture, and is exported widely to the civilian sporting market - most notably the United States and Canada. The Jack accepts standard AK-pattern magazines and drums, carries a 16.3-inch (415 mm) barrel threaded to the AK-standard 14x1mm left-hand pitch, and includes a side optic rail and bayonet lug. It is regarded as one of the better-built modern commercial AKM clones, combining authentic Warsaw Pact pattern construction with consistent Polish manufacturing quality.

Notes

WBP began as a refurbisher of military-surplus AK rifles for the Polish commercial market before scaling up to manufacture nearly complete rifles. The Jack is offered in several configurations and calibers (7.62x39mm, 5.56x45mm NATO as the 556SR, and 5.45x39mm), and the short-barreled Mini Jack debuted at MSPO 2017. Despite the .308-pattern AK rifles offered by other makers (e.g. the Russian AK-308), WBP's Jack line is built on the standard intermediate-caliber AKM platform, not a 7.62x51mm full-power action.

Background

WBP Rogów grew out of a small workshop that refurbished Cold War-surplus Kalashnikovs, making parts as needed until it could build nearly whole rifles - and the Jack, named for company founder Jacek Popiński, became one of the most respected modern commercial AKMs to come out of Poland.
