Weatherby Mark V Carbonmark

Weatherby · Sniper Rifle · In Production · 2023

Also known as: Mark V Carbonmark, Weatherby Carbonmark

Overview

The Weatherby Mark V Carbonmark is a lightweight precision rifle that pairs Weatherby's legendary Mark V action with modern carbon fiber technology for a rifle weighing approximately 7.1 pounds. The 416R stainless steel match barrel is roll-wrapped with a carbon fiber sleeve loaded under tension, creating a barrel that is both lighter and stiffer than a conventional steel barrel. The carbon fiber sleeve design allows 95 percent of the surface area to remain free of contact with the steel core, enabling air to flow around the barrel for rapid cooling while adding rigidity and reducing overall weight. The Mark V action features nine locking lugs and a compact 54-degree bolt throw, a design that has defined Weatherby rifles since Roy Weatherby introduced it in the 1940s. The 24-inch barrel with 5/8x24 threading accepts either the included muzzle brake or a suppressor. The 6.5 Creedmoor variant uses a 1:8-inch twist rate optimized for heavy-for-caliber match bullets. The carbon fiber stock completes the lightweight package, delivering a rifle that balances field portability with the precision accuracy Weatherby guarantees with a sub-MOA commitment.

Background

Roy Weatherby founded his company in 1945 with the belief that high-velocity cartridges were the future of hunting, and the Mark V action he designed to handle those pressures has remained in continuous production for over seven decades. The Carbonmark represents the latest evolution of this iconic action, mating 1940s engineering genius with 21st-century materials science.
