Also known as: Vanguard Series 2 Sporter, Vanguard S2 Sporter

Overview

The Weatherby Vanguard Sporter is a bolt-action hunting rifle and the walnut-stocked trim level of Weatherby's value-priced Vanguard Series 2 line. Built on the Japanese Howa 1500 barreled action, it pairs a two-lug push-feed bolt and cold-hammer-forged barrel with a Grade A Turkish walnut Monte Carlo stock, a rosewood forend cap, and an adjustable two-stage match trigger. Every rifle carries Weatherby's sub-MOA accuracy guarantee, and the Sporter is offered in a wide spread of chamberings led by the flat-shooting .270 Winchester.

Notes

The Sporter is the traditional walnut-stocked grade of the Vanguard Series 2, distinct from the synthetic-stocked base Vanguard and the tactical Modular Chassis. Barrel length, twist and capacity vary by caliber; figures given reflect the 24-inch .270 Winchester configuration.

Background

The Sporter gives the budget-oriented Vanguard a classic sporting look with real Turkish walnut, letting Weatherby offer a wood-stocked hunting rifle at a fraction of the flagship Mark V's price while keeping the same sub-MOA guarantee.
