Overview
The Winchester Model 47 is a single-shot, bolt-action .22 rimfire rifle produced from 1948 to 1954. Chambered for .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle cartridges, it featured a 25-inch barrel, a walnut pistol-grip stock, and open sporting sights. Its most distinctive feature was an automatic safety that engaged whenever the bolt was retracted for loading, along with a red 'fire ready' cocking indicator, making it a popular and safe entry-level and youth training rifle.

Notes
The first Model 47 rifles shipped as warehouse stock on July 13, 1948 and the rifle was first listed in the Winchester catalog on January 14, 1949. Roughly 43,123 units were produced before discontinuation in 1954. The automatic safety design was similar to that of the Stevens Model 73.
Background
An inexpensive post-war plinking and training rifle, the Model 47 was the only pre-1964 Winchester bolt-action .22 to feature a red 'fire ready' indicator, giving young shooters a clear visual cue that the rifle was cocked.
