Notes
The A-762 was developed in parallel with the A-545 and shares 85% parts commonality. Both passed Russian military trials (2015-2017) and were officially adopted in 2018. The 7.62x39mm chambering provides superior barrier penetration and terminal ballistics compared to 5.45x39mm, though with slightly increased recoil and weight. Compatible with all standard AKM/AK-103 magazines (30-round) and 40-round RPK magazines. The counter-mass balanced-action system is particularly beneficial for controlling the heavier 7.62x39mm recoil impulse. Production began at Degtyarev Plant (ZiD) in 2020. The A-762 weighs approximately 100 grams more than the A-545 due to the heavier barrel and bolt carrier required for the larger cartridge.
