Overview
The CZ BREN 2 PPS is a 7.62x51mm NATO designated marksman rifle developed by Česká zbrojovka Uherský Brod for the Army of the Czech Republic. It is built on the CZ BREN 2 BR battle-rifle platform but lengthened with an 18-inch (457 mm) cold-hammer-forged match-grade barrel, free-floated under an extended M-LOK handguard, and fitted with a two-stage trigger and a precision side-folding adjustable stock. The Czech Army began fielding the PPS in 2022 to replace the SVD/SVDN-3 Dragunov in the squad designated marksman role.

PPS stands for 'Přesná Puška Samonabíjecí' (Precision Self-loading Rifle). The Czech MoD ordered an initial 350 rifles, with deliveries to combat squads starting in 2022. Distinct from the export-market CZ BREN 2 BR battle rifle (407 mm barrel) and the longer-barreled marketing variant sold by CZ-USA.
Background
When the Czech Army needed to replace its Cold-War-era Dragunov SVDs, CZUB simply stretched the BREN 2 BR battle rifle by two inches, dropped in a match-grade barrel, and gave it a Czech-acronym name - proving you can turn a battle rifle into a designated marksman rifle without redesigning the whole gun.
