Overview

The FN 509 Compact MRD is a compact, striker-fired, semi-automatic pistol chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum, produced by FN America as the concealed-carry-oriented, factory optics-ready member of the FN 509 family. It combines a 3.7-inch cold hammer-forged barrel with the FN Low Profile Optics Mounting System, which uses interchangeable adapter plates to directly mount more than ten popular micro red dot sights, together with co-witnessing all-black iron sights and fully ambidextrous controls. It ships with both a flush 12-round magazine and an extended 15-round magazine.

Notes

The Micro Red Dot (MRD) designation refers to the factory optics-ready slide cut and FN Low Profile Optics Mounting System. The pistol uses a polymer frame with replaceable steel frame rails; compact-length flush and full-length extended magazines let the shooter trade grip length for concealability.

Background

The 509 family grew out of FN's submission for the US Army's Modular Handgun System trials; when that contract went to SIG's P320, FN productized the design for the commercial market, and the Compact MRD brought factory red-dot readiness to the concealed-carry end of the line.
