Overview
The Kel-Tec P50 is a large-format, blowback-operated semi-automatic pistol chambered in 5.7x28mm. Introduced in 2021, its defining feature is a top-mounted, horizontally-oriented 50-round magazine borrowed directly from the FN P90 personal defense weapon, giving it a striking flat profile and a class-leading 50+1 round capacity. The P50 rotates each cartridge 90 degrees from the magazine into the chamber before firing, and its unusually long 9.6-inch threaded barrel maximizes velocity from the high-pressure 5.7x28mm round. Polymer construction over an aluminum receiver keeps weight manageable, while full-length top and bottom Picatinny rails support optics and accessories.

Notes
The P50 uses the same 50-round magazines as the FN P90/PS90, where rounds sit horizontally at a right angle to the bore and rotate into alignment during feeding. The later KP50 variant added a drop-free magazine release and other refinements.
Background
Kel-Tec founder George Kellgren designed the P50 to give civilian shooters access to the FN P90's distinctive 50-round magazine in a handgun-format package, reviving widespread use of the P90 magazine in the consumer market.
