Knight's Armament M110K1
Knight's Armament Company · Sniper Rifle · In Production · 2019
Also known as: M110 Upgrade Kit, M110 6.5CM Conversion
Overview
The Knight's Armament M110K1 is a compact upgrade conversion for the existing M110 SASS (Semi-Automatic Sniper System) that re-chambers the platform in 6.5mm Creedmoor for improved long-range ballistic performance. Ordered by the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Crane in October 2019 for USSOCOM, the M110K1 conversion kit includes a complete upper receiver assembly, new muzzle brake, and B5 Systems collapsible precision buttstock. Available in both 14.5-inch and 22-inch barrel configurations, the compact 14.5-inch variant offers a significantly shorter package while the 6.5 Creedmoor chambering delivers superior external ballistics compared to the original 7.62 NATO, including less wind drift and more retained energy at extended ranges.

Notes
The M110K1 is technically a conversion kit rather than a completely new rifle, designed to upgrade existing M110 SASS rifles in USSOCOM inventory. The conversion can be performed at 2nd echelon maintenance level by replacing the barrel assembly, complete with E2 bolt and gas system. New QD suppressors specifically designed for 6.5 Creedmoor were ordered separately from the conversion kits. The 6.5 Creedmoor cartridge offers approximately 10% less wind drift and 15% more retained energy at 1000 meters compared to 7.62 NATO, making it a significant upgrade for the designated marksman role.
Background
The M110K1 represents the US military's recognition that the 6.5mm Creedmoor offers a significant ballistic advantage over 7.62 NATO for precision shooting. Rather than field an entirely new weapons system, SOCOM chose to upgrade their existing M110 fleet, a testament to the fundamental soundness of the SR-25 platform that Knight's Armament first developed in the 1990s.
