Overview
The Mossberg 940 Pro Tactical is a gas-operated semi-automatic 12-gauge shotgun designed for home defense and tactical applications. Part of Mossberg's 940 platform that debuted at the 2020 SHOT Show, the tactical variant builds on the foundation established by the competition-oriented 940 JM Pro, which was developed in collaboration with world-renowned competitive shooter Jerry Miculek. The 940 Pro Tactical features an 18.5-inch barrel, 7+1 capacity with 2.75-inch shells (6+1 with 3-inch), and a self-regulating gas system with a redesigned piston and vented spacer that sheds moisture and carbon buildup during cycling. Key internal components including the gas piston, magazine tube, hammer, and sear are nickel-boron coated, allowing up to 1,500 rounds between cleanings. The receiver is cut for Shield RMSc-pattern micro red dot sights and is drilled and tapped for additional mounting options. The shotgun features Mossberg's signature tang-mounted safety, an enlarged and beveled loading port designed for quad-loading, an oversized bolt release, and an extended knurled charging handle. The adjustable synthetic stock accommodates length of pull from 12.5 to 14.25 inches with spacers, and includes interchangeable shims for drop and cast adjustment. The barrel clamp includes M-LOK slots for accessories and sling swivel studs.
